2012 Contest Rules & Regulations

Known simply as The Rules, this governing document -- revised for 2012 -- outlines membership in the association and the standards for operation of a sanctioned competition. The Rules outlays the system for grading and how members accrue Champion Supreme points over the course of a competition season. The Rules also defines the requirements for setting up and operating a competition under MWPBA sanctioning.

2012 Individual Membership Application

Use this form to apply for Individual Membership of the MWPBA.  Current Individual membership in the MWPBA (or another recognized pipe band association) is required to participate in MWPBA sanctioned Solo Piping and Drumming events as a competitor or adjudicator.

Membership Fee is $20 if paid by March 31 // $25 after March 31.  Additional Membership fees for immediate Family Members is $10 person (includes spouse, parent/guardian, minor child, minor siblings).

2012 Band Membership Application

Use this form to apply for Band Membership of the MWPBA.  Membership in the Midwest Pipe Band Association or other recognized pipe band association is required to participate in all MWPBA competitions.

Membership Fee is $150 if paid by January 31 // $200 after January 31.

A Competition Roster for your band must be submitted by March 31.

2012 Band Competition Roster

Use this form to submit the Band competition roster, and to make changes.  (A separate free mwpba.org user account registration is required for each band, which you will be guided to create yourself.)    You may easily manage the roster entries online, or upload a prepared file.

Band competition rosters are due March 31, 2012.  A $100 late fee will be assessed for rosters received aftter March 31. (Bands newly registering after this date are excepted).

Bands must notify the MWPBA Band Registrar, in writing, of the transfer of members from one band to another ten (10) days prior to an MWPBA sanctioned competition in which such band member(s) will compete.  Bands must notify the MWPBA Band Registrar, in writing, of any new members not previously registered with any band four (4) days prior to an MWPBA sanctioned competition in which such band member(s) will compete. Only one (1) band change will be allowed per person in one (1) competition season (school band exception).

Registration of the registered instructor occurs by the instructed band's designation of the instructor on their band's competition roster and the submittal of the registered instructor form to the MWPBA Band Registrar.

Note: a player's membership in a pipe band does not convey Individual Membership to compete in solo competitions.

2012 Registered Instructor Application

You may be a registered instructor for only one (1) band in grade 3, 4 or 5; and cannot be an instructor for a band in the same grade as the band in which they are a regular registered member. The position of Registered Instructor cannot be changed during one season.

Registered Instructor registration must be submitted by March 31.  (Bands newly registering after this date are excepted.)

2012 Regrade Petition Form

If you have competed one or more years at either Junior Novice or Senior Novice, you may regrade yourself to Grade 4 any time during the year, but you must notify the Music Board and the Solo Registrar of your self-grading before your new grade is official.  The Solo Registrar will issue a new Membership number to you.

If you are now in Grade 4 or above and want to compete at a higher grade, you must submit a Grading Application (also known as a Regrade Petition) to the Music Board postmarked on or before March 31, 2012.

If you are a new applicant for MWPBA membership at Grade 3 or higher or transferring from another association to the MWPBA at Grade 3 or higher, you must file a Grading Application with the Music Board.

Adjudicator Application Form

Submit this form to apply to become an MWPBA Adjudicator.

Adjudicators are also required to register as Individual Members.
